An Editor with Unique Experience
My early training shaped everything
My foundation in editorial precision began early—under one of the most rigorous academic systems for writing refinement. Starting in eighth grade, I was trained in a two-year grammar-intensive program designed for absolute accuracy. By sophomore year, the system was relentless: each grammar or spelling mistake on our weekly in-class essays meant an automatic letter-grade deduction. This system wasn’t just a challenge; it was an immersive training ground. I got a C on my first essay, then straight As for three years on this weekly exercise.
By the time I completed senior year, flawless writing wasn’t just expected; it was ingrained. That discipline shaped my editorial approach, ensuring that no detail is overlooked and no refinement is too small. Today, I bring that same level of precision to my clients’ work, ensuring that every document is polished to perfection.
I earned a Master's degree at Purdue and a Doctorate in Organizational Communication (everything about management except the finance) at a top program, the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. I've studied all facets of management, leadership, and organizations and have become deeply experienced in academic writing and editing, as well as coaching graduate students.
I have decades of work in multiple environments - technical writing for Dow Chemical, intelligence writing for NSA, senior executive support writing, and owning my own editing business. I excel at a wide range of voices, from technical to executive to emotionally intelligent narrative, and I’ve worked across sectors that demand clarity, nuance, and trust across a variety of voices and styles.
Over the past year, I’ve worked deeply with AI‑assisted writing—not just editing drafts, but shaping strategy, voice, and credibility across fiction, nonfiction, and business work. I’ve deeply edited AI‑generated blogs, bios, and proposals. I’ve restructured entire documents where AI introduced tone drift, false polish, or muddled logic. I’ve helped clients revise AI‑influenced writing in ways that restore flow, fix drifted tone, and rebuild structure when the output was polished but wrong—and I help them use these tools more wisely by diagnosing what machines miss: the real audience, the subtle framing, the clarity that earns trust.
I bring firsthand insight—and hard‑earned editorial expertise—in working with AI‑generated writing across sectors. I know what tools like ChatGPT can do, what they miss, and how to restore clarity and credibility where the voice has slipped. I don’t prompt AI on behalf of clients, but I recognize when a paragraph was born from a tool that didn’t understand the stakes. That insight helps me edit with intention—not just smoothing the surface, but restoring purpose, rhythm, and credibility.
Wherever the draft originated, I bring clarity back to the writing, and I help the author stay visible in the work. This hands‑on experience shapes how I approach every AI‑touched project so it reads not just smoothly, but truthfully and with intention.
I have always been a voracious reader across many genres. My favorites are science fiction, fantasy, mysteries (especially cozy mysteries), fiction, and self-help. I've read many, many romances with a wide variety of characters and tones. I've read so many classic authors it's hard to begin to chose a favorite. I know good writing from experience and by producing it.
I habitually find errors in everything I read. Those errors make me sad because they are unnecessary. That's why I offer ...
